ABOUT OUR

Transitional Housing and Emergency Shelter

Since 2021, Magdala House joined forces with the City of St. Louis, providing transitional housing and emergency shelter to decrease homelessness.

Magdala’s housing and shelter program provides a direct network of resources and services to help our guests re-establish their lives. Each facility offers 24-hour security, daily meals, hot showers, and laundry facilities.

Reaching for Permanent

Transitional Housing and Emergency Shelter was created to respond to those not chronically homeless but those who have the desire to live independently.

Maximized Support

Guests in our programs have access to meals, showers, round-the-clock security, and programs that aid in mental, vocational and psychological care.

Our Housing Facilities

Magdala has expanded its unhoused program to include the following facilities: Jefferson Spaces, Sisters Mission, Hammond Apartments, and Biddle House.

Transitional Shelter

Jefferson Places

Tiny home to permanent home.

Jefferson Spaces provides a collection of “tiny homes” tasked with providing temporary housing. The goal is to help participants secure permanent housing within 3 to 6 months.

This collection of tiny homes is a community of 85 single, 10 doubles, and 5 ADA occupancy homes.

Transitional housing applicants are required to meet the following requirements:

  • Have a completed income and housing plan or are willing and capable of developing an income and housing plan
  • Willing and capable of developing an income and housing plan
Transitional Shelter

Sisters Mission

Our transitional shelter program has expanded to Sisters Mission. At this North St. Louis facility, formerly a nursing home, Magdala operates five of the eight floors in the building. Each floor contains 17 single rooms and two wings with greeting and counselor rooms in the center.

*Due to the rise in COVID-19, Sisters Mission provides quarantined housing on one of the five floors.

Transitional housing applicants are required to meet the following requirements:

  • Have a completed income and housing plan or are willing and capable of developing an income and housing plan
  • Willing and capable of developing an income and housing plan
Emergency Shelter

Biddle House

Built upon the conviction that no person should be deprived of basic, fundamental necessities, Biddle House serves as an indispensable respite for adult men who are homelessness. In its distinctive role as a 24-hour emergency shelter, Biddle House extends a multitude of invaluable services, including case management services, comfortable beds, sustaining meals, revitalizing showers and essential laundry facilities.

Rapid Rehousing

Hammond Apartments

Magdala oversees the Rapid Rehousing residency at Hammond Apartments. Hammond offers 56 separate efficiency apartments with bathrooms, 24-hour service, and more.

Rapid Rehousing helps the unhoused find permanent housing with cost-effective interventions. The goal is to teach sustainability to prevent experiencing homelessness again.

Success Stories

Jefferson spaces opened my eyes. I really appreciate their work. They feed us, we can shower, and it is a nice place to stay. I can relax, not looking over my shoulder. Doctors are available. This place brings me joy.
